Wedding Dress Dry Cleaning

Your wedding day is easily one of the most important days of your life. You want to look your best for the brand new life you are beginning. But, what becomes of the wedding dress after the wedding?

The Wedding Reception

After the ceremony, most brides can relax. They have walked the aisle, said the vows and taken about a million pictures without doing any really detriment to their beautiful dress. Now, it’s time to party. Even though you are quite careful at the reception, there is still the possibility that stains can find your dress. After all, white, off-white or cream colored wedding dresses are like stain magnets. And, while you are twirling and laughing for hours, you may not notice that your gown has been compromised.

Unbeknownst to you, your wedding dress is getting dirty. If you have a train attached to the back, it is acting like a street sweeper – cleaning up everything that everyone else has dropped. At the wedding, they only paid attention to your glowing face and at the reception, no one paid attention at all. But, when you take your dress off later on, the evidence will show itself.

Dry Cleaning

No one would ever think of stuffing their wedding dress in a washing machine. So, how are you going to remove those stains? Consider using a dry cleaning service. They will know how to remove stains better than anyone else. One word of advice here: Choose your dry cleaning service before your wedding. Who knows what danger lurks for your dress during the time before the ceremony? Keep your dry cleaning professional on standby just in case there is an accident involving a stain on your dress before the wedding. They can come in and take care of the situation for you so your guests won’t be the wiser.

Here are some questions to ask when looking for a dry cleaning service:

  • Do they clean stains by hand?
  • How much experience do they have in wedding dress cleaning?
  • Do they over storage?
  • What are their prices?
  • Will beadwork or lace be a problem to clean?

Tips from a Professional Wedding Dress Dry Cleaner

A professional will let you know what they need from you. For example, a dry cleaner will need the original instructions from the dressmaker. While they have probably cleaned lots of dresses, it can give insights into how they recommend cleaning when adornments are added (the beadwork, rhinestones and the like). Don’t rub soda water or anything else on stains you find on your dress. This simply ingrains them into the fabric. Blotting is okay but avoid doing too much of that also. It could ruin the efforts of your dry cleaner later when they clean the dress. Ask for acid-free paper to store your dress. Storing in the original plastic hanging bag or a plastic box can lead to mildew if moisture is introduced.

Wedding dress dry cleaning is an important step in preserving your memories for years to come.
